About the Christian Marking of the 1st Sunday of Advent

DESCRIPTION:
The First Sunday of Advent marks the first day of the liturgical year and the commencement of the Advent season in Christianity. On this Sunday, violet or blue colored vests are worn. A blue or violet Advent candle is lit.
This is also the fourth Sunday prior to the Christmas celebration. During this time, Christian churches throughout the world have Advent liturgies and the lighting of Advent candles is observed. Originally a German tradition, the candles are wrapped in wreaths. There are also Advent gift for the young ones. The focus of the Advent is to prepare for the birth of Jesus Christ.
Orthodox Christians tend to celebrate Christmas at the end of Christmastide, January 6. Western Christians celebrate on the 25th of December.
